2022 Jeep Wrangler Gets All-Electric!?

0

The current generation of the iconic off-roader has been around for a while, but it still looks very fresh in nearly every aspect. That’s why nobody expects to see bigger changes in the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, at least when it comes to the current lineup. However, that doesn’t mean we won’t see novelties, the big ones. It looks like FCA is finally about to introduce the all-electric version of the SUV, promised several years ago. At this point, we are still waiting for the official confirmation.

On the other side, the rest of the lineup is about to continue in the same way. You may count on a familiar design, which offers excellent off-road performances, two body styles and a plethora of engine options. Furthermore, we like the model’s interior, which is spacious (in the four-door model) and also comes packed with one of the most intuitive infotainment systems in the class. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler should hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year.

2022 Jeep Wrangler Might Get All-Electric

This is certainly the most anticipated novelty for the 2022 Jeep Wrangler. FCA has been talking about plans to offer an all-electric Wrangler for years, but we are still waiting. Even the next year’s model is currently just a rumor, as the officials are still quiet about it. Still, we could make a couple of predictions, as rumors talk about two possible variants, with electric motors on just one and on both axles. Of course, this electric version should include Wrangler’s familiar off-road hardware, including even a two-speed transfer case. Naturally, the all-electric version would be reserved for the 4-door model only.

Other than the possible electric version, we don’t expect to see anything particular for the 2022 Jeep Wrangler, in terms of novelties. The overall design will remain the same, which means you may count on two body styles in the offer and familiar mechanics. The visual aspect will remain the same as well, which is natural, considering that this model hasn’t changed drastically for decades.

Things will remain pretty familiar on the inside as well. You may count on a well-designed dashboard, which looks both durable and attractive and comes full of standard and available equipment. The four-door model is also very generous with space, which is no wonder considering 118.4 inches in wheelbase. Both rows are generous with space, while the cargo area is pretty big as well. On the other side, the two-door model is rather focused on off-roading and doesn’t offer too much in terms of practicality. Of course, you may count on Wrangler’s recognizable removable top, doors and windshield.

Features

Yearly updates usually bring a couple of novelties in terms of standard equipment, so we may expect a couple of them in the 2022 Jeep Wrangler as well. However, we are pretty sure that most of the things are about to remain the same. For reference, the current model comes standard with things like manual windows and door locks, push-button start, a removable soft top with sunroof, three 12-volt outlets, a 5-inch touch screen, an eight-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, and a USB port.

Higher trim levels are far more generous, so you can get tech goodies like 7- and 8.4-inch touch screens, a nine-speaker Alpine audio system, satellite radio, HD Radio, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, a Wi-Fi hot spot, additional USB ports, and navigation, as well as things like a removable hardtop, a power-folding soft top, a forward-facing off-road camera, power windows and locks, air conditioning, dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry.

2022 Jeep Wrangler Engines

Other than the possible electric version, the 2022 Jeep Wrangler will carry on with the same powertrain lineup. Therefore, base models will continue with a 3.6-liter V6, which puts out around 285 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. You can also get an optional turbo-four, which offers a little bit more torque. Speaking about the torque, you can also get a diesel version, a pretty capable 3.0-liter V6, which puts out around 260 horsepower and 440 pound-feet of torque.

Of course, you may also count on the new plug-in hybrid version. This system is based on a 2.0-liter turbo-four, which gets help from two electric motors, integrated into an 8-speed automatic gearbox. The total output goes up to 375 horsepower, which is something that ensures pretty respectable performances.

Finally, there is the Rubicon 392, equipped with a 6.4-liter Hemi V8 engine, which puts out around 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
