By We expect to see a hi-performance 2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS in the near future. The last year was great for this pickup truck. We have seen a major redesign but that doesn’t mean that the upcoming year will be less interesting. Latest reports are suggesting that GM prepares something pretty attractive for the next year.
Allegedly, the famous performance trim is about to come back and bring a lot of upgrades over standard models. At this point, we are still waiting for details, though we have no doubt that this will be a very interesting machine.
Silverado SS History
The SS is one of the most famous trim levels from Chevy, which has been used for a variety of muscle and other sports cars. Interestingly, there has been just one version of Silverado with this badge. It was introduced in 2003, based on the first generation of this popular truck. This version came with various upgrades over base models. Both mechanical and styling changes were included.
Still, the most interesting part of this version was the powertrain. It features a well-known 6.0-liter Vortex V8 engine, which was tuned to about 345 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. The engine came in pair with a four-speed automatic transmission.
Chevy Silverado SS Intimidator
A couple of years later, the company decided to offer a more exclusive version. The model was named Silverado SS Intimidator, to honor Dale Earnhardt, the legendary NASCAR driver. This version came with several exclusive details and included various exterior upgrades, starting from a rear spoiler.
On the inside, it featured unique headrests and a couple of more details. Of course, “Intimidator” badges were all over the truck. The powertrain remained the same. These days, this is a pretty exclusive truck, as only 933 units were made.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS Redesign
Of course, the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS will be based on standard models. Still, we count on numerous modifications, both in terms of mechanics and aesthetics. Unlike rivals, Chevy won’t go for an off-road machine, but rather on street performer. It will be tuned for the road and we count on various upgrades. Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind is the suspension. Compared to standard models, this one will come with a completely new setup, which will also include lower ground clearance.
Such design will provide a lower center of gravity, which would be highly beneficial in terms of cornering, acceleration etc. Still, mechanical changes won’t be the only ones to come. The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS will also come with a couple of visual modifications, in order to accentuate its performance character. Count on tweaks in areas like bumpers, a new set of wheels and similar things. Exclusive color options are possible as well.
Interior
A couple of interior changes are possible too. First of all, we presume that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS will come in a Crew Cab layout only. Therefore, count on a spacious and well-equipped cabin. Considering that this will be one of the highest trims in the offer, we expect to see a long list of standard features. This would include a lot of tech goodies, including a larger 8-inch touchscreen which comes with a super-intuitive infotainment system, as well as goodies like a sunroof, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, satellite radio, a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging and many more.
A couple of exclusive details should come as well. At this point, we can’t talk about anything more specific, but we presume the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS would come with things like sportier seats, unique color schemes, exclusive trimming materials and similar things. Some reports even suggest paddle shifters, but that doesn’t sound realistic at this point.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS Engine
Of course, this should be the most interesting part of the upcoming model. The current models come with three gasoline engines in the offer and we have no doubt that the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS will come with the biggest one. It is a well-known 6.2-liter V8, which currently delivers around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. Of course, we expect additional tunings for this occasion. Although it is still early to talk about exact numbers, various reports are suggesting that the new version could feature full 500 horsepower or something like that. Naturally, the engine would be paired with a new 10-speed automatic transmission, with available AWD layout.
2020 Chevrolet Silverado SS Release Date and Price
At this point, we are still waiting to hear something from the officials on this matter. Still, many reports suggest that this version could come in the next year. When it comes to the price, we presume that base versions would probably go around 50.000 dollars. We will know more details in the future.
