Pickup trucks are more popular than ever and what’s particularly interesting is that many buyers look not just for great utility, but a high level of luxury. So, it’s no wonder that models like F-150 and Ram 1500 come available in trim levels that offer so many comfort and convenience features, that they can easily be compared to some luxury SUVs. That’s why many believe that there is also room for premium players to enter the segment. Lincoln already did that two decades ago but that shot wasn’t particularly successful. Still, the latest rumors suggest that the company could try again, this time with the 2023 Lincoln Blackwood.
If this happens, we pretty much know what to expect from the revived pickup. The new model would be heavily based on the current-generation Navigator, whether it’s about styling or mechanics. The front end would look the same, as well as most of the interior design. The powertrain would be shared as well.
However, keep in mind that the 2023 Lincoln Blackwood is still just a rumor and that the officials are still quiet.
2023 Lincoln Blackwood Design
Design-wise, the 2023 Lincoln Blackwood would be heavily based on the Navigator. That means the same platform that also underpins the F-150. So, you may wonder why wouldn’t we see a re-packed F-150 instead. The catch is in the fact that Lincoln engineers want to make a genuine luxury pickup, so all those exclusive features from the full-size SUV seem necessary. This particularly refers to the chassis setup. The 2023 Lincoln Blackwood would certainly come standard with independent air suspension, to provide superior ride quality.
In terms of size, this pickup would feature a stretched wheelbase, with more space between the axle than the Navigator L. The exact number is still unknown, but experts speculate about 140 inches. When it comes to the exterior design, you may expect the same front face as in the Navigator. On the other hand, the rest of the body would feature a typical pickup layout, with a cargo bed instead of the third row of seats and cargo area.
On the inside, things should be pretty much identical to the full-size SUV, at least in terms of the dashboard design and first two rows of seats. The dashboard would look the same, with all the updates that were introduced with the 2022 facelift. This would include the massive 13.2-inch infotainment screen, along with other tech features. The interior quality would be exceptional, with lots of style and impressive materials and build quality.
When it comes to seating configurations, the 2023 Lincoln Blackwood would come only with a crew cab layout, which includes two rows of seats, both spacious enough to provide superior comfort. The cargo area should feature decent size as well.
2023 Lincoln Blackwood Engines
This aspect definitely won’t bring any surprise. We are about to see a familiar powertrain, the same one that powers the SUV sibling. That’s a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which features a max output of 440 horsepower and 510 pound-feet of torque. That’s plenty enough to provide excellent driving dynamics, in combination with good efficiency.
Speaking of efficiency, the Navigator returns around 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, so we may expect similar numbers from the 2023 Lincoln Blackwood. The engine will come with a familiar 10-speed automatic transmission, which also does a very good job.
2023 Lincoln Blackwood Release Date and Price
The 2023 Lincoln Blackwood is currently just a rumor, while the officials are still quiet. Still, unofficial reports suggest that this model could arrive already in the next year, with a starting price of around 80.000 dollars. More details should come in the near future.
