2020 Honda Ridgeline: Changes and Redesign

One of the rare car-based pickup trucks is about to come with major updates as 2020 Honda Ridgeline. This mid-size truck is on the market since 2005, while the current generation is present for about two years. It came with significant improvements, but there is more to come in about a year. It looks like we are going to a classic facelift, but several other changes as well.

Besides new styling, the upcoming model is about getting a hybrid powertrain and maybe even a hi-performance version, under the Type R badge. Expect to see the new model in the second half of next year.

When it comes to base 2020 Honda Ridgeline, expect to see a familiar V6 engine under the hood. It is a well-known 3.5-liter unit that delivers around 280 horsepower and 262 pound-feet of torque. In combination with a 6-speed automatic transmission, this truck offers an incredibly smooth ride. You can count on good acceleration and great overall driving experience. Fuel economy is also on a pretty high level and goes around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. On the other side, towing capacity is lower compared to body-on-frame rivals. It goes around 5.000 pounds.

One of the big expectations for the future is definitely the 2020 Honda Ridgeline Hybrid. This will be one of the first trucks to get electrified powertrain. Details about the powertrain are still unknown. Though super-efficient, the Accord’s hybrid system doesn’t seem powerful enough. So, one of the possibilities is to see the same system that powers Acura MDX Hybrid. This system combines large 3.0-liter V6 with an electric motor, delivering a combined output of 321 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R

Another possibility for the 2020 Honda Ridgeline is to see its performance version, under the famous Type R badge. Of course, the core of this version will be a new, much more powerful engine. Some report claims that Honda is going to be very brutal with the max output. It looks like we are about to see a huge tunning up of the current V6 engine, where a max power would go all away to 450 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque.

Of course, such a huge amount would require some chassis reinforcements. Also, expect to see a new, sporty suspension and brake, among other upgrades. Of course, visual upgrades are expected as well. The new 2020 Honda Ridgeline Type R should come with lots of enhancements that will emphasize its sporty character. This would include various exterior modification, but changes on the inside as well. Interior changes would include new sports seats, steering wheel, instrument cluster and plenty of other details.

2020 Honda Ridgeline Release Date and Price

The 2020 Honda Ridgeline should come sometime in the second half of next year. More precise launch date is yet to be announced. When it comes to price, base models will go around 30.000 dollars.

Competition is pretty tough. There are trucks like Toyota Tacoma, Chevy Colorado, GMC Canyon etc. We also expect to see several brand-new trucks in the future, like VW Atlas Pickup, then pickup trucks from Kia and Hyundai etc.
