Honda’s pickup has always been special, thanks to its unibody design. However, it looks like it could become even more special, as we are getting reports about the high-performance version, which would come with the famous Type R badge. This isn’t the first time that we are hearing rumors about such a version but it looks like something is actually cooking in Honda’s kitchen this time. The 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R could arrive already by the end of this year.
Although we still don’t know the details, we presume that this version would come with all kinds of upgrades. Of course, some of the things that come to mind are upgraded suspension, brakes and other mechanical modifications. We also count on styling upgrades, though there is no doubt that the most interesting thing about the 2023 Ridgeline Type R would be the engine. If we can trust rumors, that could easily be a turbo V6 unit.
2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R Design
Of course, the 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R would heavily rely on the current generation of Honda’s pickup, which isn’t too fresh but which still has a lot of great things to show. Naturally, we would see all kinds of modifications. The first thing that comes to mind is the suspension setup. We would see new dampers and other components, along with lower ground clearance, which would reduce body roll and improve Ridgeline’s cornering. Furthermore, we count on upgraded brakes and a few more chassis upgrades.
Besides mechanical upgrades, we presume that the 2023 Ridgeline Type R would also come with a lot of new styling details. Simply, we count on new aesthetics, which would accentuate the model’s high-performance character. So, some of the highlights would be things like new bumpers, front splitter, rear diffusor and similar things.
When it comes to the interior design, we presume we would see typical Type R upgrades. If you look at the Civic Type R, you can see upgrades like sports seats, new color schemes, new materials and similar things. Of course, we won’t be seeing a new gear shifter, as the Ridgeline would come with an automatic transmission.
Other than that, the cabin layout would remain largely the same. The 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R would come in a crew cab layout, equipped with two spacious and comfortable rows of seats that accommodate five adults with ease. Behind the cabin, count on a familiar 5-foot 4-inch bed.
As we are talking about probably the most expensive version of the Ridgeline, we presume that the list of standard equipment would be pretty long. So, we count on tech goodies like an 8-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, two USB ports, a seven-speaker stereo, Bluetooth, wireless charging, satellite radio, navigation etc.
2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R Engine
We have finally come to the most interesting aspect of the 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R. While the standard model comes equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 that puts out 280 horsepower, this model would certainly come with something more powerful. Most reports speculate about the 3.0-liter turbo V6, the same one that powers the new MDX Type S. That engine puts out around 355 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque and we have no doubt that would be enough power to provide respectable performance.
Of course, the engine should come with a 9-speed automatic, though some sources also speculate about the new 10-speed transmission. All-wheel drive would be standard, while we would also expect to see things like limited-slip differentials etc.
2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R Release Date and Price
Although some sources suggest that this version could arrive already by the end of this year, the 2023 Honda Ridgeline Type R is still just a rumor. Therefore, make sure to take these paragraphs with a reserve. If it arrives, we presume that the starting price would go around 55.000 dollars.
