2022 Nikola Badger: What We Know So Far

0

The world of pickup trucks is significantly changing these days and it’s all about electrification. There are several all-electric pickup trucks on the way and one of them is called 2022 Nikola Badger. This is the newest and probably the least known name in the game. However, it seems it will be one of the closest rivals to the Cybertruck. After all, both companies were named after the famous Serbian inventor and both promise excellent capabilities. Other important all-electric trucks to come are models from companies like Rivian and Bolinger, while companies like Ford and GM also work on their all-electric pickup truck.

The 2022 Nikola Badger will have a couple of aces up its pocket that will help stand out. One of the first things that come to mind is the range. Interestingly, the new truck will use power not just from batteries, but from hydrogen fuel cells as well.  The new truck should hit the market in about two years.

2022 Nikola Badger Design

When it comes to base design characteristics, we should say that this is a completely new model, built from scratch. We saw a couple of prototypes so far and the latest reports suggest the production model will be shown for the first time this September. The 2022 Nikola Badger will offer plenty of interesting design solutions. The thing that draws the most attention is definitely the power storage. Unlike the rivals that rely just on batteries, this one will feature not just battery storage, but fuel cells as well. The additional reservoir of power will double the range, as each package will ensure around 300 miles on a single charge. This leads us to the conclusion that the 2022 Nikola Badger will be able to make 600 miles without recharging and refueling and most rivals won’t be able to come even close.

Another important thing to mention is that Nikola plans to open more than 700 hydrogen filling stations across the states. So, we may count on solid infrastructure as well.

Exterior and Interior

When it comes to the styling, the rendering photos show that we may expect a pretty attractive pickup truck, which brings loads of futuristic details. Still, it won’t be as radical as the Cybertruck or some other models. Like any other electric pickup truck, this one won’t be available single cab layouts, but rather only in crew cab versions. Due to the all-electric design, the amount of space on the inside will be pretty generous, despite that dimensions will be somewhere between mid-size and full-size pickup trucks.

On the inside, we also count on loads of futuristic details, while we also have no doubt that the number of tech goodies will be impressive as well.

Performances and Range

In terms of performances, the 2022 Nikola Badger promises a lot. According to the manufacturer, the continuous power will go around 455 horses, while the peak output will go all-away up to 906 horsepower. That power will go to all wheels, via two or three electric motors. The truck will come equipped with an intelligent Independent Wheel Drive. This will ensure excellent traction and capabilities in all driving conditions. The manufacturer claims 0-60 time in just 2.9 seconds.

As we already mentioned, the power will be stored in one battery package and one fuel cell reservoir. Each one will be able to provide 300 miles of range. So, the total autonomy will go all-away up to 600 miles, which sounds really impressive. When it comes to max towing capacity, the 2022 Nikola Badger will be good for about 8.000 pounds.
