2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Gets New Interior and Facelift

The current generation of GMC’s half-ton pickup truck has been around for nearly two years and it looks like GM already prepares some changes. Of course, the most anticipated are those on the inside, considering that the current model features pretty much the same cabin design as the previous generation. However, that won’t be the only novelty for the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500, as the company actually prepares a major mid-cycle update.

This update will include not just interior updates, but also big changes from the outside. The testing model has been spotted and it wears a lot of camouflage. Of course, most of the revisions will be made at the front, but changes are about to come in other areas, judging by the camouflage. When it comes to the powertrain, we don’t expect bigger changes. The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is expected to hit the market sometime in the second half of next year.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Finally Gets New Interior

Without any doubt, the biggest complaint about the current model goes to interior design. As you probably know, the current generation arrived in 2019 but it kept the cabin layout from the previous generation. This includes a pretty much complete dashboard, so there is no doubt it looks a little bit outdated compared to the competition, especially when compared with Ram 1500.

Fortunately, this is going to change soon, as the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is coming with a completely new dashboard design. At this point, it is still hidden under the camouflage but our spy photographers managed to get some photos that clearly show some of the changes. One of the most notable things is that the new model will finally drop the old-school steering column shifter. The new one will come with the electronical one. Furthermore, we are about to see new infotainment and a bigger touchscreen, which will be integrated into the dashboard, in the same way as the new Yukon Denali. The rest of the dashboard is, though, under the camouflage, so it’s hard to talk about the exact look. On the other side, we definitely expect to see a digital screen on the instrument cluster.

The overall cabin design is about to remain the same and we count on familiar styles in the offer. This means all three variants in the offer, such as Single, Double and Crew Cab models. Changes in terms of interior dimensions are not expected. On the other side, we do expect to see loads of new tech features, including new infotainment software, an updated trailer camera system etc.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Facelift

Besides massive interior changes, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is also about to come with big changes in terms of exterior design. As you can see on spy shots, the test model wears a lot of camouflage from the outside, especially at the front. In this area, we expect to see a lot of interesting tweaks. This will be a typical facelift, so we count on revisions to headlights, grille, bumper etc. Judging on the camouflage, big changes are about to come to the rear end, though the exact details are still to come.

Mechanically, the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is about to carry on in the same way. Some sources suggest revisions in terms of suspension but we don’t expect that these changes will be significant. Most of the things will remain the same as in the current model.

Engines

The 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 is coming with loads of changes, but things under the hood are about to remain the same. Therefore, base models will carry on with a good-old 4.3-liter V6, which is good for about 285 horsepower. If you’re looking for something more efficient, there is a new-generation 2.7-liter turbo-four, with a max output of 310 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Also, there is a turbodiesel version, with a familiar 3.0-liter oil-burner, which puts out around 280 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

Of course, there are also two well-known V8 units. The smaller one is a 5.3-liter engine with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The bigger and more powerful 6.2-liter unit is reserved for range-topping models and puts out around 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.

While the base V6 is coupled with a six-speed automatic, the rest of the lineup comes with either 8- or 10-automatic gearbox.

2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Release Date and Price

We expect to see a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 next summer, without a bigger price increase. The current model starts around 30.000 dollars. Some of the key rivals are models like Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan.
